"The Ballad of Botany Bay"

“Ballad of Botany Bay”

My father a hard working sailor he was
the seven seas he´d travelled across
Once an Armada got in his way
he came out as the only survivor that day
Shipwrecked on an little island but then
He got resuced by some English men
But on their ship they took him away
To a far away prison in Botany bay

In botany bay he went on shore
they threw  him behind the  prison door
Starving and tired,  never did he complain
About the hard labour, torture and pain
I heard he escaped on a self-built boat
“Give me freedom or death” he left as a note
But they caught up on him and forced him to stay
at this far away prison in Botany bay

He was sent to Norfolk island one day
Locked up with murderers, could not get away
He heard  the savage  shouting for war
While they were crossing the nearest shore
He cried out his sorrow “What have I done?”
“How could I have left my beloved one(s)
And prayed to God to bring him away
From this far away prison in Botany bay

After serving his sentence back home he was sent
He arrived in galway with no money to spend
His wife and his children bursted out into  tears
They hadn´t seen money for so many years
His children were starving so he stole some corn
So that the young might see the new morn
And once again they took him away
To a far away prison in Botany bay

After years in this prison he was released
He came back home on a cold christmas eve
He swore to the lord from today until then
I will never be seen in this this prison again
He suffered from all the aching he´d earned
And marked it down as a lession he´d learned
Until he closed his eyes on his final day
He never came back to Botany Bay
